The Listeners Guild

A friendly place to be heard · Adults 18+

You talk. We listen. Advice only if you ask.

Sometimes you don't need a fix. You need someone to hear you out. The Listeners Guild pairs you with a person who listens first and judges never.

Choose how you want to be heard

Tell us what kind of ear you need

Before a conversation starts, you pick one. Your listener sticks to it, and you can switch any time.

"Just listen"

Hear me out

No suggestions, no "have you tried." Your listener reflects back what they hear and lets you get it all out.

"Help me think"

Talk it through

Your listener asks gentle questions so you can untangle things yourself. You stay in charge of the answers.

"What would you do?"

Friendly advice

An honest, kind take from someone who has listened to the whole story. Offered once, never pushed.

Two places to talk

Write it out, or say it out loud

Both live in our free Discord server. Some things are easier to type, some need a voice. Use whichever feels right today.

Write at your own pace

Post in #whats-on-your-mind and tag the kind of ear you want. Listeners reply when they can, and you can come back to the thread days later.

How a conversation works

Four steps, no pressure

  1. Say a little

Post a few lines on the forum or hop into a voice room. A nickname is fine.

  2. Pick your ear

Hear me out, talk it through, or friendly advice.

  3. Meet a listener

A trained Guild volunteer who has signed the pledge below picks up your conversation.

  4. Talk as long as you like

End whenever you want. Come back later, or don't. Either is fine.

The Listener's Pledge

Every Guild listener completes our training and agrees to these promises before their first conversation.
  • I

I will listen to understand, not to reply.

  • II

I will not offer advice unless I'm asked for it.

  • III

I will not judge, lecture, or compare your story to mine.

  • IV

What you share stays in the conversation, unless someone's safety is at serious risk.

  • V

If you need more help than a listener can give, I'll point you to it kindly.

  • 18+

The Guild is for adults. Members and listeners must be 18 or older.

Questions

Before you start

Who are the listeners?

Adult volunteers who applied, completed our training and signed the Listener's Pledge. They are not therapists, counselors or doctors, and they don't diagnose or treat anything.

Is it really free?

Yes. No fees, no tips, no upsells. Listeners will never ask you for money, gifts or personal details, and you should report anyone who does.

Is it private?

Listeners keep what you share to themselves, with one exception: if we believe someone is at serious risk of harm, we may contact emergency services or Discord's safety team. Forum posts can be read by other members, and Discord has its own privacy policy. Use a nickname and leave out your full name, address and workplace. Details are in our Privacy Notice.

When are listeners available?

Voice rooms are staffed every day from 6 PM to 10 PM Eastern. The schedule is also under Events in Discord. Forum posts get replies as volunteers are free. Hours can change, and we can't promise a reply within any set time.

What if I'm in crisis?

Please don't wait for us. Call or text 988 in the US, or call 911 if you or someone else is in danger. Outside the US, call your local emergency number.

Why 18 and over?

Listeners are volunteers talking with strangers online, and we aren't set up to protect minors the way youth services are. If you're under 18, talk to a trusted adult, or call or text 988 any time.

Come talk, or come listen

We're opening the Guild a few people at a time. Questions go to the address below, and listener applications start with the Listener Guide.

I'd like to be heard

The fastest way in is the Discord forum. For anything else, write to us. Please don't email anything urgent; we may not see it right away.

I'd like to listen

Patient, kind, and good at staying quiet? Read the Listener Guide, then email us the answers to the application questions.

For adults 18+. Listeners are friends, not professionals.

The Guild is peer support from volunteers. It is not therapy, counseling, medical advice or a crisis service. If you or someone else is in danger, call 911. If you are thinking about suicide or are in emotional crisis, call or text 988 (US). If no listener is online, find a free warmline run by trained peers.
